Sterling Silver

Caring for your Silver

Silver is an element. It is a supple metal that is softer than gold. Silver can be polished to a mirror-like shine. The characteristic lightness of the colour is due to the metal’s very effective light-reflecting properties.

Care Tips

Make sure your new silver beads and bracelets stay in beautiful condition and remember the following care tips:

  • When not wearing your silver bracelets, beads, earrings or rings, we recommend that you store them in an airtight bag to prevent oxidization. You can also store them in our Trollbeads stacking jewellery case.
  • If you wear silver beads on your gold chain, please be aware that the silver can deposit a slight tarnish. This can be easily removed by gently buffing the chain regularly and carefully with a silver-polishing cloth.
  • Gentle, regular buffing with a silver-polishing cloth will help to retain the lustre in your Trollbeads - a simple way to keep them clean and sparkling.
  • Ensure that you follow our measuring guide to find the right bracelet size, to make sure that there is enough slack for new beads to be added without putting pressure on the lock.

Murano Glass

Caring for your Glass Beads

Glass Trollbeads are each unique works of art. Even if yours has been created to one of the original Trollbeads designs - because they are each lovingly hand made each one looks slightly different. Follow our tips for caring for your original glass Trollbeads and they will stay looking luminous and beautiful for years to come.

Care Tips

Make sure your glass beads stay bright and beautiful by keeping in mind the following care tips:

  • To clean glass Trollbeads we advise you gently buff with a soft lint-free cloth. Do not use any commercial cleaning products or fluids as these can contain peroxide and bleach that will damage your charm beads.
  • You should never swim whilst wearing your glass Trollbeads, especially in a chlorinated swimming pool. Never immerse them in hot water or seawater. This could damage the resin settings. That means taking them off when you're doing the washing up!
  • As a general rule we recommend that you avoid contact with perfumes, creams (including hand creams), soaps, cosmetics and hair lacquer, etc. As mentioned above, never allow your beads to come into contact with chemical detergents or bleach. This means putting your Trollbeads jewellery on as last that finishing touch when you've finished with all your beautifying lotions and potions.

Gemstone

Caring for your Gemstones

Due to natures very own design, the stones will vary in colour and have unique inclusions and features that show their great age and natural beauty. You will never find two identical stones.

Care Tips

  • Always protect your precious and semi-precious stones from knocks and bumps. Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray and other chemicals, as some stones have a porous surface and can be influenced.
  • Some stones are dyed, and can change over time. In the Trollbeads collection only pink and turquoise agate, plain and striped, are coloured. When put in extreme sunlight for a long time these stone-beads can fade.
  • Precious and Semi-precious stones are a natural material that will show a variance in colour, shape and structure. Some stones are naturally softer and will have a less sharp facetted look after long use.

Copper

Caring for your Copper

Copper is a versatile metal that reacts to your body when worn and becomes more beautiful and personal with time.

Care Tips

  • You can keep your new copper jewellery clean by occasionally washing it with lukewarm, soapy water and afterwards drying it with a soft cloth. You can also clean it by simply using a little copper polish on a soft cloth.
  • When not being worn, store your copper jewellery in plastic bags to keep it from tarnishing. If your copper jewellery should tarnish, you can clean it using a combination of salt and vinegar or by using lemons. A combination of salt and vinegar reduces oxidisation from copper. Simply pour a little vinegar and salt over the copper, rub it into the metal and keep rubbing to remove any tarnishing and grime. Rinse off with water and rub dry with a soft cloth.
  • Alternatively, you can also clean tarnish off your copper jewellery with lemon juice. Cut a lemon in half, add a little salt to the lemon and rub over the copper until all tarnish is removed. Rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth.

Gold

Caring for your Gold

Pure gold is 24 K. Usually gold is mixed with copper, which allows for a warm, golden colour. For all our gold beads we use 18 K gold – the perfect balance of purity and strength. The foxtail bracelet and necklace is made of 14 K gold. The gold beads are stamped with the hallmark LAA 750. This means that 750 units out of 1000 are pure gold.

Care Tips

  • Wash your gold jewellery in mild soap and rinse well with water. Dry thoroughly and polish with a soft cloth.
  • Avoid jewellery cleaners and antibacterial soaps which might make your gold- plated jewellery tarnish more quickly. Anything plated will eventually tarnish with time and wear.
  • Store your jewellery separately in small cloth bags, or even better in acid-free, airtight plastic bags or boxes. This will help you to avoid, as far as possible, unnecessary scratches and too rapid oxidation.

Leather

Caring for your Leather bracelets

Leather must not be exposed to water, if a leather bracelet is worn whilst showering or swimming the life span will shorten dramatically. Using a leather protective spray can help repel water but always read the instructions first. Leather will also naturally wear over time like most natural materials.

Care Tips

For daily cleaning of your leather bracelets:

  1. Simply wipe the leather gently with a soft, dry cloth. Stains should be removed immediately before they soak in or dry – use a mild professional cleaner (without chemicals) or a mild soap such as soap flakes or saddle soap.
  2. Create suds in a bowl and apply the suds to a soft, lint-free cloth, then wipe the leather
  3. Afterwards, wipe the leather with a dry cloth and add a leather conditioner to protect it further. Remember to keep leather out of direct sunlight

Amber

Caring for your Amber

The composition, colour, and other characteristics of amber vary according to age, sediment conditions, and the type of tree the resin comes from. The colours of amber range from light cognac to dark cherry and even black, and from milky to antique.

Care Tips

While Amber requires no special care, here are a couple of tips to keep in mind:

  • Should amber jewellery become slightly dull with use, simply use a dry cloth to shine it up once again.
  • never use oil or chemical products in an attempt to clean it.
  • Amber is an organic product and will show a variance in colour, shape and structure.

Freshwater Pearl

Caring for your Pearls

Freshwater Pearls are an organic living material that can "die" if they are not worn on a regular basis. They should preferably be worn directly on skin as often as possible to maintain the beautiful lustre. Pearls are an organic product and will show a variance in colour, shape and structure.

Care Tips

Make sure your new silver beads and bracelets stay in beautiful condition and remember the following care tips:

  • Being a natural product, direct contact with makeup, perfume, cosmetics, hair spray and the like must be avoided. Furthermore, they must never be exposed to acidic substances such as vinegar, lemon, chlorine and the like.
  • Cleaning of freshwater pearls should be carried out by using a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water if necessary. If this is not enough, one can use a mild solution of unscented detergent and water.
  • Please note that the pieces must be completely dry before they are worn or stored. Best way to store jewellery composed of pearls, is always separately to other jewellery and in a soft cloth bag, so as to avoid them getting scratched.
  • Pearls are a natural material that will show a variance in colour and shape.
